FOSA Publishes SAMM’s Federated Learning Paper

The Fiber Optic Sensing Association (FOSA) has published the white paper “FOTAS with Federated Learning: Redefining Acoustic Sensing for the Future”, authored by SAMM Teknoloji’s R&D team members Bilgekul Kadirhan Karahan, Mustafa Bölükbaşı, İsmail Uzun, Ramazan Can Şahin, and Uğur Ataman.

The paper introduces the FOTAS platform, which transforms standard fiber optic cables into highly sensitive sensors through Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS). This technology enables real-time monitoring of critical infrastructure, energy systems, and security environments.

A key contribution of the paper is the integration of Federated Learning (FL) into the FOTAS platform. This decentralized AI approach allows local model training without transferring raw data to central servers, enhancing privacy, saving bandwidth, and adapting more effectively to diverse environments.

The paper also highlights use cases such as facility security, border protection, and pipeline monitoring, demonstrating how FOTAS provides innovative, scalable, and intelligent solutions. This publication underscores the significant role SAMM Teknoloji’s R&D team plays in advancing fiber optic sensing technologies globally.
