Intrusion detection is where a place or a system is protected from outside influences by monitoring the perimeter. The technologies used for this purpose are under the heading of perimeter security and they are greatly varied. These technologies can be cameras watching a backyard or they could be like FOTAS using distributed acoustic sensing for detecting intrusions. FOTAS uses an algorithm to classify anomalies as different type of intrusions. It then alerts the system user in case of a breach.
