Continuous Measurement
The installed fibre route provides distributed measurements instead of relying only on separate point sensors.
FOTAS is a Distributed Fibre Optic Sensing solution family developed by SAMM Teknoloji for continuous monitoring, event detection, localisation and early warning across critical infrastructure and industrial environments.
EXPLORE THE FOTAS PORTFOLIOFOTAS brings Distributed Acoustic Sensing and Distributed Temperature Sensing together within one solution ecosystem. Developed on SAMM Teknoloji’s experience in fibre optics, telecommunications, system engineering and research and development, the portfolio addresses different security, fire-safety and asset-monitoring requirements.
The FOTAS portfolio includes the complete FOTAS DAS system for acoustic and vibration-based monitoring, together with FOTAS APEX and FOTAS INTEGRITY, two dedicated Distributed Temperature Sensing platforms developed for different thermal monitoring objectives.
In a distributed fibre optic sensing system, a suitable optical fibre becomes a continuous sensing medium rather than a collection of isolated measurement points. The system controller sends laser pulses into the fibre and analyses the optical signals that return from locations along the route.
Depending on the sensing technology, FOTAS can identify acoustic activity, vibration, movement, temperature changes and developing thermal anomalies. Thousands of distributed measurement points allow the system to determine where an event or temperature change has occurred.
Learn more about the underlying principles on the DAS Technology and DTS Technology pages. Selected FOTAS DAS configurations may also support additional distributed temperature-gradient-related sensing capabilities.
The installed fibre route provides distributed measurements instead of relying only on separate point sensors.
Acoustic events and thermal anomalies can be associated with their position along the monitored route.
The sensing cable contains no powered field electronics along the monitored route.
Alarm and measurement data can support security, fire-safety and operational monitoring workflows.
Each FOTAS solution is designed around a specific monitoring objective. FOTAS DAS focuses on acoustic and mechanical events, FOTAS APEX on linear heat and fire detection, and FOTAS INTEGRITY on thermal condition and asset behaviour.
FOTAS DAS is the complete Distributed Acoustic Sensing system within the FOTAS portfolio. It transforms the fibre route into a continuous acoustic and vibration sensor for applications such as perimeter security, pipeline monitoring and infrastructure protection.
The system can support the detection and localisation of activities including walking, vehicle movement, excavation, fence cutting, climbing and abnormal vibration. FOTAS DAS combines sensing hardware, monitoring software, alarm management, integration capabilities and AI-supported event classification.
FOTAS APEX is the DTS platform developed for linear heat and fire detection. It creates a continuous temperature profile along the protected route, helping detect high temperatures, abnormal temperature rise and developing localised hot spots.
Alarm zones, temperature thresholds and rate-of-rise conditions can be configured according to the application. APEX is suitable for environments such as tunnels, cable galleries, conveyor systems, car parks, data centres and other extended or high-risk areas.
FOTAS INTEGRITY is the DTS-based platform developed for monitoring the thermal condition and temperature behaviour of critical assets. It combines continuous thermal profiles, historical data and trend analysis to help identify deviations from expected operating behaviour.
INTEGRITY can support monitoring across power cables, electrical equipment, battery energy storage systems, conveyors, pipelines and industrial assets. Its measurements can contribute to maintenance, operational and load-management decisions without presenting a thermal deviation as a complete equipment diagnosis on its own.
