Oil & Gas Pipeline Monitoring

Distributed fiber optic sensing solutions for continuous pipeline security, leak detection and asset integrity.

01

Continuous Monitoring for Critical Pipeline Infrastructure

Oil and gas pipelines extend across remote, environmentally sensitive and high-risk regions where leaks, third-party interference and operational anomalies can lead to serious safety, environmental and financial consequences.

FOTAS provides independent Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) solutions. Depending on project and operational requirements, these technologies can be deployed separately or together to provide comprehensive pipeline monitoring and asset protection.

By using suitable existing or newly installed fiber optic infrastructure as a continuous sensing element, operators gain real-time visibility across long-distance pipeline corridors without relying solely on isolated point sensors.

Key Pipeline Monitoring Challenges

Continuous visibility is essential across long and difficult-to-access pipeline corridors.

01

Leak and Product Release

Small or developing leaks may remain undetected until they create significant operational or environmental damage.

02

Third-Party Interference

Excavation, tapping, vandalism and unauthorised activity can threaten buried and above-ground pipeline assets.

03

Remote Infrastructure

Long-distance routes and difficult terrain make regular inspections and conventional point monitoring challenging.

04

Operational Continuity

Faster event detection and accurate localisation help reduce response time, downtime and unnecessary field inspections.

FOTAS Solutions for Oil & Gas

DAS and DTS can be selected independently or deployed together according to the monitored risk and infrastructure.

Acoustic and Vibration Monitoring

FOTAS DAS

FOTAS DAS continuously analyses acoustic and vibration signatures along the sensing fiber to identify external threats, ground disturbances and operational events in real time.

  • Third-party intrusion detection
  • Excavation and digging activity
  • Right-of-Way monitoring
  • Mechanical disturbance detection
  • Pipeline activity monitoring

Temperature and Integrity Monitoring

FOTAS DTS

FOTAS DTS continuously measures temperature along the sensing fiber to identify thermal anomalies, detect developing leaks and support pipeline integrity monitoring across long distances.

  • Leak detection through thermal anomalies
  • Continuous temperature profiling
  • Hot spot detection
  • Process and flow monitoring
  • Long-term asset integrity analysis

Pipeline Monitoring Architecture

A fiber optic sensing cable installed along the pipeline is connected to the selected FOTAS DAS or DTS interrogator. The system continuously evaluates acoustic, vibration or temperature data according to the deployed sensing technology.

Detected events can be transferred to SCADA, DCS, alarm, video management and operational control platforms, enabling faster verification, accurate localisation and coordinated response.
